SEAWORLD RESCUES AND RELEASES

ENTANGLED MANATEE

Orlando, Fla. (June 17, 2010) -- SeaWorld Orlando’s Animal Rescue Team came to the aid of an endangered male manatee that had its left pectoral flipper entangled in a crab trap line. After successfully untangling the animal’s appendage, rescuers immediately returned the 6½-foot sea cow back into the waters of Palm Bay, Fla.

Discarded crab traps are a pervasive pollution problem for manatees. SeaWorld routinely rescues entangled manatees, many of which end up with amputated flippers due to the severity of the injuries.

SeaWorld is the global leader in the rescue and rehabilitation of manatees. The park’s Animal Rescue & Rehabilitation Team is on call 365 days a year, 24 hours a day. The goal with every rescue is to return the animal back to the wild.
